Busch, Niven: Duel In The Sun ; NY: Hampton/Morrow, 1944. First Edition; Very Good to Near Fine in a Very Good Dustwrapper which shows some light fading on the spine and wear along the top of the front panel, specifically small closed tears and chips. Some light rubbing at the folds. An uncommon book in the first edition, this copy is rare indeed in that it is dated, signed and inscribed by the author: "Dear Louella, I hope you find this half as good as I found "The Gay Illiterate". Sincerely, Niven Busch" The "Louella" is Louella Parsons, the noted Hollywood gossip columnist and reporter for the Hearst Newspapers. Her autobiography, "The Gay Illiterate" was published in the same year. "Duel In The Sun" was the basis for the huge box office movie with an all-star cast-- among them Gregory Peck, Jennifer Jones, Joseph Cotton, Lillian Gish and Lionel Barrymore. The last interesting note is that the inscription is dated Jan 9, 1943. Seems that the author may have had the same problem that many of us have in remembering the new year (1944).
